How many of you out there have RPG systems or settings that you have picked up but never got to play for one reason or another? Odds are there are a few of you out there with books sitting around collecting dust. What I would like to try and start is a group based on this forum that would meet once a month and play various RPGs that people always wanted to see played or just never had the group to do it.

Basically what I am working at here is a group that alternates GM and runs "one-off" adventures to get the feel for a game. The group would offer people the chance to try out different games as well as allows people who may want to do some role playing but don't necessarily want to commit to an entire campaign as the goal of each session would be to play out a self contained adventure much like you would at a Convention or demo type setting. With that said I am not against have games spin off into campaigns if players are really into game or setting that would be great.

Overall I think that this group idea would be a nice way to give players an opportunity to try new/unknown games and break away from the norm.

Here are a few things I feel would be needed to get this group off the ground
1.Games...goes without saying I envision that players wishing to run a game would schedule the game a month or two in advance to allow time to get everything setup.

2.Locations...I don't necessarily feel that we have to always play in the same location. It would be great to find a place centrally located to everyone but that is near impossible. What I would propose is that the location rotate between stores or players home if they choose. The GM of a game would be responsible for setting the location with the help of the other members of course

3.Players...People who are open to new ideas in gaming and are even willing to run a game or two from time to time. Players would need to have some level of commitment so that games actually get to run. I wouldn't however feel that we would need a full on set of say club rules would be needed players should want to play in games and not be forced.

4.GM...Players willing to run games, that being said GM would need to put in a little work as they will be running a one off adventure and would need to decide how to best facilitate the game, wither it be to allow players to generate character prior to the game of giving out characters that he has generated. The GM would have total control over the whole process. I envision game lasting 4 to 6 hours giving the GM and players time to get the game in and also make the commitment easier for people wanting to participate since 4 to 6 hours a months its not a huge commitment.

If anyone has any other ideas please feel free to post onto this thread.

If anyone is interested in participating as a player or a GM please reply to this thread and we can start organizing a schedule.

On a side note I have 2 games I could have ready for the latter half of July.

That's a great idea, Joel. When I used to live out west, my gaming group did the same thing. That's how we found cool RPGs like Deadlands, Twilight 2000, and Mutant Chronicles, to name a few.

Good luck with your project! If driving was more convenient, I'd jump in! :)
